The main advantage to using a folded dipole is the broader band-width, lower noise for receive and transmitting

The advantages of a BuxComm cat# FLDIPOLE, folded dipole antenna over a simple dipole:

The main advantage to using a folded dipole is the broader band-width, lower noise for both the receive and transmit signals. In some circles a folded dipole is sometimes referred to as being related to a "squeezed loop" antenna.

A folded dipole is a special type of loop antenna. The primary benefit is that connecting the ends of the dipole (to form a folded dipole) seems to remove much of the man-made and atmospheric noise and interference. Most man made sources of noise are electrical, and by closing the ends of the folded dipole elements, the folded dipole makes this antenna immune to terrestrial noise and cancels out nearby electrical noise.  This alone gives the folded dipole a quality that makes it an ideal antenna  to use with the digital modes (Packet, PSK, FSK, SSTV, WJST/JST, etc).

At the same time increasing the gain and bandwidth factor. The increased gain and bandwidth makes the BuxComm FLDIPOLE ideal for better DX, and local communicating. Being broad-banded, allows us to use our BuxComm FLDIPOOLE across wider portions of the HF bands with less re-tuning of our transmitting system.

Another big advantage of a folded dipole over a regular dipole is the feedpoint impedance can be fed with a 4:1 BALUN.  An immediate advantage that allows us to use less expensive, and readily available TV and CATV, 75 ohm coaxial cable.  Our BuxComm cat# FLDIPOLE uses a 4:1 BALUN rather than twin-lead, because twin-lead tends to radiate and create near-field RF interferience.  By using a 4:1 BALUN, and 75 ohm coax, we remove the near-field interference problems.

For coax with PL259 installed, see our catalog number; FLDRG6
